The objective of this paper is to determine the dynamics of the Employed Population (EP) of the Central-West Mesoregion (CWM) based on the movements experienced by Mexico's EP from 2005 to 2024. The analysis is developed using the traditional shift and share method and with structural modification. The traditional shift and share indicates that the CWM is classified as a “partially losing” region, it presented a hypothetical decrease of 9716 jobs. The negative figure indicates that the CWM lacks absolute specialization in rapidly growing sectors in the country. The shift and share with structural modification defines the CWM as “partially winning”, it had a hypothetical increase of 90,229 jobs; however, the method also indicates that the mesoregion is being driven by sectors of slow economic growth in the country. The technical flaws of the traditional shift and share make the CWM more reliable.
